Clinical observations were done on 744 cases of cerebrovascular accidents treated as in-patients at the Seoul Red Cross Hospital over a period of 4 years, from Jan. 1972 to Dec. 1975. The results were summarized as follows.
1. The ratio of the cerebrovascular accidents to the number of patients admitted to ¢¥the department of internal medicine during the ¢¥same period was 11.1%.
2.. Among 744 cases of cerebrovascular accidents, cerebral hemorrhage was presented in 49.73%, cerebral thrombosis in 27.28%, subarachnoid hemorrhage in 13.31%, transient cerebral ischemia in 4.70%, hypertensive encephalopathy in 3.36%, and cerebral embolism in 1.61%.
3. The distribution of sex in cerebrovascular accidents disclosed that male was dominant. The distribution of age in cerebrovascular accidents showed that the sixth decade was most predominant followed by the seventh and fifth in turn.
4. The mortality rate during the hospitalization was 32.66%, among which 50.04% is in cerebral hemorrhage. 64.20% of case of death died within
24 hours fromonset.
5. Hypertension was found in the majority of the cerebrovascular accidents (80.78%), especially
88.65% was hypertensive among cerebral , hemorrhage.
6. The fundoscopic findings in cerebrovascular accidents disclosed that grade H were found most frequently in 55.73%. The EKG findings showed that left ventricular hypertrophy was. found frequently in 64.26%. The findings of cerebrospinal fluid disclosed that bloody CSF in 55.93%.
7. The incidence of the cerebrovascular accidents among the total medical in patients has increased year by year.
